Pengantar Penelitian Tindakan Kelas

Penelitian tindakan kelas merupakan salah satu bentuk penelitian yang berkembang dari action research atau penelitian tindakan yang awalnya berkembang di Amerika dan Eropa pada akhir tahun 1990, terutama dalam bidang ilmu sosial dan humaniora.

PTK ini bertujuan untuk memperbaiki atau meningkatkan kinerja secara langsung.

Sanjaya dalam bukunya Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (2009) menyebutkan bahwa penelitian tindakan kelas adalah proses penyelidikan masalah pembelajaran yang ditemui dalam kelas, termasuk menemukan solusi untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut lewat tindakan-tindakan terencana.Sekarang coba kita lihat contoh penelitian tindakan kelas di bawah ini.

Ibu Ani adalah seorang guru Matematika. Selama menjelaskan materi bangun datar di kelas, ia menyadari siswanya kurang fokus dengan pelajaran yang disampaikan. Terlihat banyak dari  mereka yang asyik mengobrol sendiri, mencoret-coret buku tulis, bahkan ada yang mengantuk.

Setelah mencari tahu faktor penyebab kurangnya minat belajar siswa melalui pertanyaan, Ibu Ani menemukan bahwa siswa menganggap materi bangun datar itu sulit karena banyak rumus yang harus dihafal.

Berdasarkan informasi yang didapat, Ibu Ani berusaha merencanakan pembelajaran bangun datar yang lebih mudah dipahami oleh siswa melalui metode problem based learning, di mana mereka diminta untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan bangun datar di dunia nyata secara langsung.

Dilihat dari cerita Ibu Ani di atas, sudah jelas ya Bapak dan Ibu Guru kalau apa yang ia lakukan adalah metode penelitian tindakan kelas, di mana kegiatan dilatarbelakangi oleh keinginan Ibu Ani sendiri untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajarannya.

Seperti Ibu Ani, Bapak dan Ibu Guru juga bisa, lho melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas. Tidak hanya untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran, ada banyak tujuan dari kegiatan ini. Kira-kira apa saja ya?

Tujuan dan Karakteristik Penelitian Tindakan Kelas

Kalau Ibu Ani lebih fokus untuk menemukan metode pembelajaran apa yang sesuai dengan siswanya, Bapak dan Ibu Guru juga bisa melakukan PTK dengan tujuan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan profesional dalam pengelolaan proses pembelajaran.

Lebih jelasnya, penelitian tindakan kelas bertujuan untuk:

  • Meningkatkan praktik di lapangan karena dalam pelaksanaannya guru terlibat langsung dari mulai merencanakan sampai melakukan PTK itu sendiri.
  • Mengembangkan profesionalitas karena PTK didasarkan pada keinginan guru untuk meningkatkan kualitas kerja agar tercapai hasil pembelajaran yang lebih maksimal.
  • Meningkatkan kondisi pembelajaran karena dalam melaksanakan tugas mengajarnya guru akan berusaha untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses dan hasil belajar.

Dari tujuan-tujuan di atas, kita bisa lihat nih, kenapa PTK ini penting untuk guru. Dalam proses pengembangan kurikulum, ada empat peran guru yaitu sebagai pelaksana, penyelaras, pengembang, dan peneliti. Dengan PTK, artinya guru melaksanakan tugasnya sebagai peneliti.

Berdasarkan tujuannya, kita juga tahu bahwa karakteristik utama PTK adalah untuk memecahkan permasalahan pembelajaran sehari-hari yang dihadapi oleh guru. Penelitian ini bisa dilakukan ketika guru sudah menyadari adanya hambatan dalam proses pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan, seperti yang terjadi di kasus Ibu Ani sebelumnya.

Karakteristik yang paling jelas dari PTK adalah adanya tindakan-tindakan tertentu yang dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kualitas belajar mengajar. Jadi, penelitian bukan hanya didasarkan rasa ingin tahu, tapi juga untuk mencari solusi dari masalah yang ada dalam rangka memperbaiki kondisi pembelajaran.

Dalam pelaksanaannya, ada beberapa jenis penelitian tindakan kelas yang bisa Bapak dan Ibu Guru pilih. Mari kita bahas satu-satu.

4 Jenis Penelitian Tindakan Kelas

Modul Guru Pembelajaran Kelompok Kompetensi I menyebutkan ada empat jenis penelitian tindakan kelas, yaitu:

  1. PTK Diagnostik, yaitu jenis penelitian yang berfokus ke suatu tindakan. Misalnya, guru ingin menyelesaikan pertengkaran yang terjadi antar siswa, di mana perlu dilakukan pengkajian apa yang menyebabkan masalah itu terjadi dan fokus penelitian hanya pada solusi untuk menghentikan pertengkaran siswa.
  2. PTK Partisipan, merupakan penelitian yang prosesnya diikuti secara langsung oleh peneliti dari awal sampai akhir pembuatan laporan. Prosesnya meliputi perencanaan, pemantauan, pencatatan, pengumpulan data, dan pelaporan.
  3. PTK Empiris, adalah penelitian yang didasarkan pada proses pengalaman dan pengamatan, di mana peneliti berupaya untuk menyampaikan aksi apa yang dilakukan selama penelitian berlangsung.
  4. PTK Eksperimental, yaitu penelitian yang dilaksanakan untuk menemukan strategi yang efektif dan efisien untuk kelas melalui penerapan berbagai metode pembelajaran.

Bapak dan Ibu Guru sudah tahu pengertian, tujuan, dan jenis penelitian tindakan kelas. Terus, bagaimana cara melakukannya?

Model Penelitian Tindakan Kelas

Ada beberapa metode penelitian tindakan kelas yang bisa digunakan sebagai rujukan. Sebenarnya, ada banyak ahli yang menyampaikan pendapat mereka tentang model PTK, tapi kali ini kita hanya akan membahas tiga model yaitu dari Hopkins, Kurt Lewin, dan John Elliot.

Model PTK Hopkins

PTK model Hopkins jika digambarkan akan membentuk sebuah spiral yang dimulai dari identifikasi masalah, kemudian diikuti perencanaan dan pelaksanaan tindakan.

Setelah melakukan observasi dan refleksi dari tindakan yang sudah dilakukan, guru bisa melihat apakah perlu melakukan perencanaan ulang atau meneruskan tindakan berikutnya sesuai rencana sebelumnya.

Adanya kemungkinan pengulangan rencana membuat model ini berbentuk seperti spiral.

Model PTK Kurt Lewin 

Hampir mirip dengan model hopkins, model PTK Kurt Lewin fokus ke empat tahap penelitian yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi.Perencanaan merupakan proses penyusunan rancangan tindakan yang akan dilakukan untuk memperbaiki atau meningkatkan pembelajaran. Rencana penelitian dibuat setelah menemukan atau menganalisis permasalahan.

Setelah ada perencanaan, barulah melakukan tindakan sebagai upaya untuk menemukan solusi pembelajaran. Kemudian, observasi dilakukan atas tindakan yang sudah dikerjakan sebelumnya.

Terakhir, refleksi menjadi kegiatan mengkaji dan melihat proses penelitian yang dilakukan terkait permasalahan pembelajaran, apakah bisa langsung menerapkan solusinya atau menyusun ulang rencananya.

Model PTK John Elliot

Berbeda dari model PTK sebelumnya, model PTK John Elliot lebih rinci karena di dalam setiap siklusnya memungkinkan untuk memiliki beberapa tindakan. Setiap tindakannya pun terdiri atas beberapa langkah yang dilakukan dalam bentuk kegiatan pembelajaran.Langkah pertama yang dilakukan dalam model ini adalah menentukan dan mengembangkan gagasan umum, yang kemudian diikuti dengan kegiatan eksplorasi.

Setelah menyusun rancangan penelitian, tindakan-tindakan dilakukan dan selama prosesnya ditinjau dan terus dieksplorasi. Hasil dari peninjauan dan eksplorasi bisa diteruskan untuk tindakan selanjutnya atau kembali memperbaiki rencana.
